Course Details
This Teesside based course covers the general requirements of Building Regulations in relation to electrical installations for dwellings. You will cover;
1. Scope, Purpose and Structure of the Building Regulations
2. Understand notifiable and non-notifiable types of building work
3. Identify relevant approved documents
4. Indentify the role of Building Control Services.
The course will teach the Methods of Compliance for the 7 Parts of the Building Regulations that are most relevant to electrical installations in dwellings.
Assessment
The City and Guilds course is assessed by a multiple choice 20 question online exam.
Certification
Successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds 2393-10 Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in domestic dwellings certificate and a certificate of attendance from PASS.
Candidates who fail the examination will only receive a certificate of attendance from PASS.
Length
The course is one day long in total and is held at the Stockton on Tees electrical training centre close to Billingham, Durham and Sunderland.

Course Suitability
Suitability
The City and Guilds Certificate in the Building Regulations is a one day course suitable for electricians working in the domestic electrical industry. It is most suited to those who have had several years of experience working within the industry.
Progression and Development
Candidates who successfully pass the ‘City & Guilds Building Regulations for Electricians’ will be well-positioned to continue onto the following City and Guilds qualifications:
- Level 2 Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification (2392)
- Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391)
This qualification is widely recognised by the five main competent person schemes ran throughout England and Wales (NAPIT, NICEIC, Gas Safe, ELECSA, BSI). Those who successfully complete this course will be able to apply to their preferred scheme for accreditation.
Pre-requisites
Candidates should be familiar with installations in domestic electrical environments and should be working in the industry, ideally holding a City and Guilds 2360 Part 1, or a City & Guilds 2330 level 2 or equivalent qualification.
It is expected that candidates have a working knowledge of the following;
- Electrical Safety Legislation, Regulations, Standards and Terminology
- Domestic Electrical Circuit Installation
- Installing Domestic Lighting Circuits
- Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding Requirements
- Inspecting, Testing and Commissioning Single Phase Domestic Electrical Circuits
- Special Locations and Installations Including Kitchens
- Domestic Electrical Installation Pre-Work Survey / Inspection
- Basic Understanding of 3 Phase
If not, then the Part P 5 day course may be a better choice.
