Combined package to replace City & Guilds 2391 qualification
Aimed at industry professionals and practicing Electricians, this combined course is for anyone wanting to update existing skills, move their career to the next level or just wanting to carry out initial and periodic inspection and testing.
The first part of the combined package deals with the 2394 part of the course, a level 3 qualification covering initial verification and certification of installations.
The second part of the combined package deals with the 2395 part of the course, also a level 3 qualification which covers the principles, practices and legislation for periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations.
Course Details
Course Details
Both the 2394 and 2395 are studied consecutively, allowing both qualifications to be achieved at once. This means that learners gain two qualifications from one course programme.
The first four days of the course are based on the 2394 part, which focuses on the initial verification and certification section of the package. The section includes both theoretical and practical learning elements and assessments.
The final two days of the course package focus on the 2395 section, which covers the principles, practices and legislation of periodic inspection and testing. This section also includes practical and theoretical learning elements and examinations.
The programme for the course will run as follows, covering these topics:
- Isolating electrical circuits and installations safely
- Initial verification of electrical installations
- Carrying out the inspection of electrical installations before being put into service
- Testing and commissioning electrical installations safely
- Testing before circuits are energised
- Testing energised installations
- Completing electrical installation certificates and other documentation
- Ensuring safe systems and equipment before inspection, testing and commissioning
- Inspecting electrical installations before they are in operation
- Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment
The final part of the course (2395) covers the following topics:
- Inspecting and testing existing installations
- How to complete the Electrical Installation Condition Report and supporting documents
- Carrying out Periodic Inspection of electrical installations
- Periodic Inspection and Initial Verification differences
- Read, understand and interpret test results
- Safely testing electrical installations which are in operation
- Completing electrical installation condition reports and other documents
- Confirming the safety of a system and equipment before carrying out inspection, testing and commissioning
- Carrying out electrical installation inspections before the installation is in service
- Producing a condition report and recording observations and classifications
Assessment
City and Guilds set the assessment examinations for both the 2394 and 2395 courses and these consist of multiple choice exams, written papers and practical tests.

The practical exams are taken once all the above ones have been completed.

Certification
All those passing all the examinations, assessments and the practical tests for both parts of the combined package, will be awarded with two City and Guilds qualifications, one for the 2394 and one for the 2395.
Length
The whole package is six days long and is taken consecutively. Four days are allocated for the 2394 part of the course and the final two days are allocated for the 2395 part of the course.

Course Suitability
Those wanting to study the 2394 and 2395 combined package need to have knowledge and experience of inspection and testing. Those already working in the industry or those who would like to upgrade any existing qualifications are the ideal candidates for this course package.
Anyone who already has the level two 2392 course will find it useful when studying this combined package course, however this is not a requirement.
Progression & Development
The 2394 and 2395 courses are part of the JIB grading for approved electricians and can be taken towards this.

Pre-requisites
To be eligible for entry to this course, learners must have existing experience and knowledge of inspection and testing. Those with knowledge of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and already working in the industry are the most suitable candidates for this course.
However, anyone still wanting to study inspection and testing but not qualified to do so can choose to study the Introduction to Inspection and Testing course.

Essential Readings
Learners will need to be knowledgeable of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and a copy of them would be useful. The On-Site Guide and Guidance Note 3 would also be beneficial.
