What is covered in PAT training?
The aim of PAT training is to ensure that participants are competent and have the ability to carry out testing to the level demanded by statutory regulations.
People attending the PAT courses develop the necessary knowledge and skills through both practical and technical teaching carried out by the highly skilled tutors.
Participants are taught a wide range of PAT related skills and knowledge. Firstly they learn why PAT testing has to be carried out, as well as the law and legal obligations relating to the procedure. They are also taught what is known as the ‘principles of electricity’, which includes readings and measurements, voltage, current and resistance.
Safety is always an important issue, so ‘electrical danger’ is also covered, including the necessity and uses of earth wire and insulation. The course includes the various classifications and the differences between them.
The importance of the IET Code of Practice is taught, including its theoretical aspects and how to gather information from the code. Other topics cover the recording of results and how to use a tester on various appliances.
