Electrician Tom Kinane Career Profile
In a recent issue of Professional Electrician they interviewed BBC Electrician and Lighting Director Thomas Kinane.
After talking about how iconic the BBC television centre in White City is, they moved on to discuss the serious business of how Tom Kinane ended up working in TV.
Tom started as an electrician in Ireland and did a five year apprenticeship with an Irish Sugar company.
He stumbled on his first job as a Production Electrician after replying to an advert to work at London Weekend Television.
Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength and he has had the opportunity to work on some high class TV programmes including Graham Norton and Ant and Dec.
He is now a Lighting Director and focuses on lighting for TV and shows, and has had many interesting opportunities in this role, including being allowed to stay in a studio whilst Paul McCartney recorded some music.
Tom’s story highlights how diverse the electrical world can be. It shows that beginning a career in the electrical industry has the potential to take you down some unexpected but exciting career routes.
