The 2377-77 course from City and Guilds is a PAT testing course that provides you with a recognised qualification in portable appliance testing procedures.
Over a two day period, the course allows candidates to learn PAT testing and gain a recognised qualification from a leading qualification body widely known in the industry for quality training.
As theory-based course learners will be required to do some reading and learn the basic aspects of PAT testing procedure to be able to carry out the task effectively and with competence.
Many employers require a qualification like this as proof of knowledge and skills in a subject before they will employ someone to perform the task. This course can adequately provide this and is recognised across the country as a leading qualification in PAT testing procedures.
Who is the course designed for?
The two day PAT testing course is most suited to those responsible for the maintenance of portable appliances in work environments and those who would like to take up PAT testing as a career.
The choice to take up PAT testing can stem from many aspects. Some need to train to be able to test appliances in-house for their company alongside their main job, whereas some want to make it their main career and set up a business PAT testing for companies.
Both of these types of people will find this course ideal for their needs.

Required Reading
Learners are required to be familiar with and bring to the course a copy of the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition).
Course Suitability
City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for this qualification. However, candidates attempting the qualification are expected to be familiar with electrical systems and the hazards of electricity to satisfactorily complete the qualification.
It would also be beneficial to complete our 1 x day PAT Competence Course prior to the 2377-77
We recommend 2377-77 learners have the following:
- An understanding of electrics/electrical background
- An understanding of OHMs law
- Basic maths skills
- A knowledge of PAT testing

Please Note for the Examination: It is a City & Guilds rule that no digital devices are allowed in an exam room. Only original hard copies of the IET Code of Practice are allowed.
