Course Duration: 2 Days
Location: Arena Training Centre, Unit 1, Coleford Road Business Centre, Darnall, Sheffield, S9 5NF
Certification Gained: City & Guilds 2377-77 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT Testing)
Examination: At the end of the course, learners will take a 1 hour 45 minute, open-book PAT testing exam.
The 2377-77 PAT course focuses on the theory behind PAT testing alongside practical advice on using PAT testing equipment.
By taking our PAT testing course Sheffield, you’ll learn how to understand why we PAT test, how to do it yourself and what types of appliance you should be testing.
The course includes modules that focus on:
- Hazards of Electricity
- Classification of Appliances
- Dangers
- Legal Requirements
- The IET Code of Practice
- Recording Results
- Using PAT Test Equipment
Upon successful completion of all modules and the exam, you’ll have everything you need to PAT test appliances yourself.
Course Suitability
City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for this qualification. However, candidates attempting the qualification are expected to be familiar with electrical systems and the hazards of electricity to satisfactorily complete the qualification.
It would also be beneficial to complete our 1 x day PAT Competence Course prior to the 2377-77
We recommend 2377-77 learners have the following:
- An understanding of electrics/electrical background
- An understanding of OHMs law
- Basic maths skills
- A knowledge of PAT testing

Learners are required to be familiar with and bring to the course a copy of the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition).
Please Note for the Examination: It is a City & Guilds rule that no digital devices are allowed in an exam room. Only original hard copies of the IET Code of Practice are allowed.
