About the ITC Thermal Camera Level 1 Training Course
Operating thermal cameras correctly and effectively is highly beneficial to countless businesses and applications; with the power of thermal cameras, you can expand your surveying abilities to spot problems with buildings, detect overheating electrical components, find underfloor heating and much more.
The ITC Level 1 thermal camera training course is designed to prepare you for qualification as a category 1 certified thermographer. During the course, you will learn about the basics of infrared, how to use your thermal camera effectively in different conditions, how to read measurement results and how to spot potential error sources.
After taking the course, you will be able to perform infrared thermal inspections competently (following written guidelines) and be able to report on the results found during the inspection.
The following modules are covered as part of this thermography training course:
- Introduction to Thermography: learn the history, benchmarks and how thermal cameras are used in different applications including electrical, mechanical, building, medical and research & development. Also covers camera technology overviews from older scanning systems to modern-day systems
- Heat and Temperature – study how temperature is measured, with a focus on both contact and non-contact temperature measurements. Also covers how radiation is converted into temperature and introduces you to heat transfer
- Infrared Theory Basics – a scientific look at the theory behind infrared, including conduction, convection, radiation, black bodies, transmission emissivity, reflectivity and calibration. Also includes a practical demonstration of heat transfer modes, plus follow-up theory work
- Measurement Techniques – learn to use your camera effectively and use different measurement techniques in different conditions. Focuses on atmospheric and environmental considerations such as distance, humidity, air temperature and reflected apparent temperature
- Basic Heat Transfer Theory – this module looks at the definition of temperature and measurements, plus thermodynamics, heat and temperature, heat transfer, conduction, convection and radiation
- Thermal Camera Measurement Tools – a closer look at specific measurement modes found on thermal cameras, including cross hair measurements, area boxes/circles, colour alarms and specific dew point/insulation alarms
- Camera/Software Familiarisation – throughout the course, you’ll regularly get hands-on experience of using a thermal camera. Using portable simulated labs, you’ll use the camera to perform various tasks and also use thermal camera software to look at your findings and create professional thermal reports
Course Examination
On the last day of the course, you will take part in a 50-question multiple-choice test.
